Illustration of the application roadmap: six milestones from applying to a university to arriving in Georgia

Application Roadmap & Deadlines for International Students in Georgia (2026/2027)

Applying to a Georgian university as an international student follows a fixed sequence: university admission, recognition of your documents, official enrolment, your visa and, after arrival, your residence permit. Here is the order, with the timelines to plan for.

Last checked: 24 October 2026 · Deadlines differ by university, so always confirm them with the university you choose.

1. Intake seasons: autumn and spring

Autumn (main intake)Late September to mid-OctoberMay to August3–4 months earlier (May–June)
SpringLate February to MarchNovember to JanuaryOctober–November

Many private universities accept applications on a rolling basis, but your enrolment must be officially approved. Late applications can be moved to the next intake.

2. Step by step, from application to arrival

The whole process often takes 6 to 10 weeks, and longer in the busy summer months.

  1. Choose a program and apply. Send your passport, school diploma (or bachelor's degree for a master's) and transcripts. Many universities hold an online interview or ask for English proof (IELTS/TOEFL). Compare programs and fees.
  2. Conditional offer letter. After your interview, the university confirms your provisional place.
  3. Recognition of your documents. Your translated and apostilled (or legalized) documents are checked by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. Allow several weeks.
  4. Official enrolment. After recognition, your enrolment is officially approved. This is the document you need for your visa.
  5. D3 student visa (if your country needs one). Apply at a Georgian embassy or consulate with your enrolment documents, proof of accommodation, a bank statement and health insurance. Processing times vary by embassy, so allow several weeks. Visa and residence permit guide.
  6. Arrival and residence permit. Submit your original documents at the university, register for classes and apply for your residence permit at the Public Service Hall at least 40 calendar days before your legal stay ends.
